Savuti, Botswana

The Savuti area borders the Okavango Delta to the west and Chobe National Park to the east and boasts one of the greatest concentrations of animals in Southern Africa. This area or more precisely the Savuti Channel is connected with a mystery. It has an interesting history of flooding and drying up without any relation of good rainy seasons and flood levels somewhere else. This mystery has intrigued many researches for numerous years. It is believed the phenomena is explained by the tectonic activity deep below the Kalahari's sand bed. However, there are also theories which explain the flooding with rainfalls in the Angolan highlands which feed both the Okavango and Chobe river basins and finally the Savuti channel.
